The Neumann U87 has been a staple in the recording industry for 50 years and can be found in professional studios worldwide. A large dual diaphragm capsule offers a warm, well-balanced sound with three selectable polar patterns (omni, cardioid and figure-8). Combined with a -10 dB PAD and high-pass filter switch, the Neumann U87ai is an incredibly versatile microphone suitable for any number of recording applications. While its capsule has remained unchanged since 1967, the U87ai’s circuity has been modified to provide an improved signal-to-noise ratio and higher sensitivity to increase operational headroom.

When you're really after great fidelity, clarity, and authoritative presence, the Neumann U 87 Ai — with its ruler-flat midrange and gentle presence boost — is your go-to mic. We all need vocals to shine in the mix, and the 87 was born for this. Now, it's not right for every vocalist, but you'll find it's the vocal mic of choice on a masive number of iconic recordings. Piano? Grand or upright, when you need an acoustic piano to sit pretty in a thick track, a couple of 87s will get the job done.

The Neumann U 87 Ai is a true legend. Introduced in 1967, it has shaped the sound of countless hit records for the past 50 years. And when those hits were announced on the radio, many a DJ sat before a U 87 Ai. The legend continues: To this day, no professional recording studio is complete without a Neumann U 87 Ai.
