About Musiclab

Over the last 25 years, Musiclab has flourished into a company that specialises in the sale, service and support of professional audio and hi-tech music equipment. Now based in Bowen Hills, a central city suburb of Brisbane, our acclaimed retail showroom houses a plethora of studio technology – from synthesizers and sound modules to audio interfaces and live solutions.

Musiclab isn’t just a retail store, though. When you step through our doors, you enter a community of musicians, producers and engineers who are just as passionate about the industry as you are. A group of individuals with unmatched experience who are more than happy to talk to you about their first love – music.

Our sales staff pride themselves on their ability to research up-to-date information and to apply that data in tailoring the most appropriate solution for your needs in various areas of music creation and audio and video production. Whether you’re just starting out or at a professional level, we will spend the time it takes to answer your queries and get you the gear that you need – all with legendary after-sales service from our full-time tech-support team.

The former Musiclab Service Department is now operating as a separate business called Totally Technical Pty Ltd. However, it is still conveniently located in the same building and with the same professional staff and fully equipped workshop. Most repairs are able to be carried out on our premises. Totally Technical is a recognised service agent for the professional audio products of many brands including Sony, Tascam, Behringer and Yamaha.

Musiclab also specialises in supporting the needs of education institutions and students, and is a recognised supplier to the Queensland Government. Porl Olditch A. Mus. A.

Starting his adventures in music at the ripe age of six, Porl’s very first sound making device was a three-quarter sized violin. After being awarded an AMEB diploma for violin and theory of music in 1989, his interest in music technology began when he started sequencing a Casio CZ-1000 synthesizer with Cubase on an Atari ST. During his career as a professional producer and musician, Porl has garnered some remarkable achievements including high rotation radio airplay with bands Zephyr Timbre and My Ninja Lover, national tours with Spearhead, Nelly Furtado, Moby and Jamiroquai amongst many others, performances at international festivals such as Homebake, Parklife and The Big Day Out as well as winning Nokia’s Connecting Beats national competition.

Between all of this, Porl has found time to score several short films and commercials and his first six 'Tone Painting' DJ mixes have been played on Triple J’s The Club. Porl currently manages the retail aspect of Musiclab where he specializes in music production, synthesis and keyboards. He is always more than happy to pass on production tips and tricks and share his knowledge of music in general.

Warwick Davis

Warwick Davis is a performer, mentor and stalwart of the music industry.  As well as being one of the longest serving employees of Musiclab and music technology retail in the country (he is often respectfully called our ‘tribal elder’), he is also the owner of In-Tuition – a business specialising in music technology teaching services.  With knowledge that spans the full gamut of digital audio workstations from Apple Logic through to Steinberg Cubase, Warwick is also a professional guitarist and producer who performs regularly around town.

Bill Hazard

Our newest salesperson - Bill Hazard - is an incredibly experienced producer and engineer who, with his band Soma Rasa, has accomplished a vast array of accolades within the local and international music industry. A veritable benchmark of Australian electro / breaks music, Soma Rasa's gig list reads like a who's who of International and Australian electronica. Quickly signed to Valve Records after their first gig in 1997 they released their first self titled EP gaining instant national attention through Triple J Radio, reviewed in Rolling Stone (Australia) and a huge demand for the live show across the country. It was a support slot for Moby on his 1999 Australian tour that sparked it all off, since then the names speak for themselves. Amongst a plethora of others, the indomitable Hazard Brothers have shared bills with the likes of Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers, Moby and The Freestylers. Their Australian festival credits include Livid, Homebake and 8 straight appearances at Australia’s The Big Day Out.
